CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR

Job Profile: AAPS Salaried – Nursing, Level B

Job/Position Summary: Practice supervision of nursing students in Seminar, Clinical and Laboratory/SIM setting.

Working Relationships:

  • Works within a team of others who are teaching at the same level in the program.
  • Participates in review labs.
  • Initiates and maintains contact where assigned and orients self to the setting as per Interior Health Policy and the School of Nursing expectation.
  • Collaborate as necessary with the agency personnel to ensure that the student experience addresses the goals.
  • Collaborates as necessary to ensure that the student experience addresses the goals.
  • Consults with Team Leader and Associate Director when student performance is of concern.

Work Performed:

  • Attend orientation workshops.
  • Attend planning meetings prior to the start of the contract/term.
  • Attend team meetings as scheduled and participate in minute taking on a rotational basis.
  • Attend Term End Review Meeting.
  • Become familiar with the School of Nursing Policies.
  • Schedule specific practice learning experiences for assigned students.
  • Prepare patient assignments and inform students of their assignments according to the course expectations.
  • Be present during the entire student practice time and supervise students throughout their time at the agency.
  • Maintain a daily anecdotal record of each student’s performance and provide feedback as outlined in Practice Policies.
  • Engage in student journal dialogue.
  • Grade and provide feedback on practice-related written assignments.
  • Complete the student evaluation process at the end of term.
  • Participate in Review Labs/SIM during and at the end of the practice term.
  • Provide written feedback to the team regarding the practice environment at the end of the term.
  • Provide mentoring to new practice teachers at the beginning of the term.
  • Attend grade appeals even if these appeals take place following contract completion.
  • Enter a voicemail message on the assigned UBC telephone and regularly retrieve messages.
  • Regularly check UBC Okanagan School of Nursing e-mails (at least three times weekly).
  • Submit mileage and parking reimbursement claims monthly.
  • Invited to attend School of Nursing monthly meeting, but not required.

Exercising Judgment/Impacts of Decisions/Consequence of Error:

Offer formative as well as summative evaluative feedback verbally, through the written journal, and in the form of written evaluation. Seek guidance regarding student performance concerns only from the Team Leader or the Associate Director and collaborate with them to provide the student with constructive feedback and options for progress in the program.

Be willing to give negative feedback to the student if indicated. Inappropriate judgment or unwillingness to provide constructive feedback may harm the student’s progress in the program and/or result in unsafe practice in subsequent practice placements.

Supervision Received and Given:

Initially, mentorship will be provided by an experienced faculty member. The Team Leader is available for consultation at any time. The Associate Director is also available for consultation regarding policy and its application, student performance and feedback.

Experienced clinical assistants will mentor new practice teachers as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Clinical Assistants must be Registered Nurses in British Columbia and must have at least two years of practice experience in nursing. Clinical assistants must have a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or have made significant progress toward that degree.

Sessional Lecturer for 2026 Summer Term 2 (July 6 – August 13, 2026)

The School of Nursing, Okanagan campus, is looking for a Sessional Lecturer to teach the following course during Summer Term 2 2026: NRSG_O 504

Course Description: NRSG_O 504: Finding and Integrating Knowledge for Evidence-Based Practice: Focuses on the development of students’ abilities to find, critique, and synthesize evidence to inform the scholarly development of advanced practice in their teaching, management, research, and provision of nursing care.

NRSG_O 504 is taught online to a cohort of MSN students, with a focus on the development of a rapid review. This course is scheduled for Tuesdays & Thursdays, 0900-1200.

The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse and hold a doctoral degree in nursing or other health care discipline with expertise in rapid reviews and evidence reviews (NRSG_O 504) and relevant university teaching experience. The compensation rate per credit per period for the School of Nursing is $3,186.37, equaling $9559.11 for the course (3 Credits)

Develops advanced understanding of health promotion, disease and injury prevention, population health, and epidemiology.

The NRSG_O 428/528 course is taught online to a cohort of upper year BSN (NRSG 428) and MSN (NRSG 528) students on Tuesdays & Thursdays 0930-1230.

The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse and hold a doctoral degree in nursing or other health care discipline with expertise in community health nursing (NRSG_O 428/528) and relevant university teaching experience. Individual faculty also offer Research Assistant positions for both graduate and undergraduate students. RAs are employment opportunities for qualified students offered by faculty members with research grants and contracts.
