Message from the Director

Welcome to the School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health and Social Development at UBC’s Okanagan Campus.

As the Director of the School of Nursing, I would like to extend a warm welcome to prospective and current students, staff, and faculty. We also respectfully acknowledge the Syilx Okanagan Nation and their peoples, in whose territory we learn, work, and connect on the UBC Okanagan campus.

The School of Nursing has a long and distinguished history as an innovator in nursing curriculum and has provided an exemplary undergraduate educational experience. The past decade has been a period of rapid growth and change within the School. We now offer a full range of nursing education programs – an entry to practice undergraduate degree, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing.

UBC is continuously ranked at one of the top Schools of Nursing in Canada. Our School is home to renowned researchers, scholars and educators who all share our goal of providing exceptional learning experiences for our students and of improving the health and well-being of our community. Our graduates continue to excel and are transforming clinical practice and health research in the Okanagan region and beyond.

While recognition for our leadership in the advancement of health knowledge and scholarship is key to expanding our local and international partnerships, we remain clear on our core mission, which is our student’s success. At all levels of education, we are focused on preparing career-ready graduates who not only have a global perspective on healing and healthcare but who will be agents of future health-care transformation.

At the School of Nursing, we invite diverse perspectives in solving real-world health issues and advancing equity through nursing leadership. In my role as Director, I am committed to actively contributing to an inclusive culture at the school where all members of our community are welcomed and supported. Year over year, I am humbled and inspired by our students, faculty, and staff and I look forward to seeing the remarkable contributions you will make as a community to nursing and healthcare now and in the years to come. I know that together we can meaningfully contribute and transform healing and health around the world.
