Biography

Rishma Chooniedass was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and received her BN and MN from the University of Manitoba (UofM). She spent her first 13 years of nursing working in research in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at the UofM. At the Manitoba site, she coordinated large national epidemiological studies. Her interest in food allergy and anaphylaxis in children encouraged her to pursue her master’s degree. She moved to Kelowna in 2017 where she teaches in the School of Nursing at UBCO. She enjoys teaching clinical practice where she encourages students to apply evidence-based practice and think critically for their patients. She lectures several classes where she uses a variety of approaches to enhance student learning. In her spare time, she continues to conduct research and volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club as a restorative justice facilitator and a youth mentor.
