Scholarship & Funding Opportunities
A variety of scholarships are available for those students pursuing the Master of Science in Nursing program. These scholarships are competitive. Please consult with faculty for assistance with developing your application.
Canadian Nurses Foundation (CNF)
The Canadian Nurses Foundation is the only National foundation solely committed to promoting the health and patient care of Canadians by financially supporting Canadian Nurses engaged in higher education, research, home health-care and specialty certification; advocating dissemination andd utilization of nursing knowledge.
Study Awards are supported by the Scholarship Fund Trust Accounts investment income as designated by CNF donors, and by contributions made by corporate and individuals donors. CNF gives nurses across Canada approximately $275,000 annually in scholarships and certification awards. For more information visit CNF.
Registered Nurses Foundation of British Columbia (RNFBC)
RNFBC raises money for bursaries for students who are enrolled in basic, post-basic, re-entry, specialty and graduate education programs in nursing. Each year RNFBC awards a significant amount to BC residents studying nursing at colleges and universities in BC and at out-of-province institutions. Please visit their website for more information.
Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR)
MSFHR Research Trainee Program Awards support highly qualified Master, PhD and Post Doctoral trainees to prepare for careers as independent health researchers. While “training on the job,” these exceptional students significantly increase the productivity of the research programs with which they are affiliated. By funding their training, BC is better positioned to retain them as future leaders in health research. All awards consist of an annual stipend and a research and travel allowance. Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR)
Canada Graduate Scholarship Master Awards
The CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarships Master Award are intended to provide special recognition and support to students who are pursuing a Master’s degree in a health related field in Canada. These candidates are expected to have an exceptionally high potential for future research achievement and productivity. Students need to be applying for support to pursue their first graduate degree (i.e., Master), be full-time and completing a thesis. Full information is available on the CIHR website.
CIHR Institute for Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR)
CIHR-IHSPR is committed to building, strengthening and supporting Canadian health research and knowledge translation capacity in the field of health services and policy research at every step along a researcher’s career trajectory. IHSPR is also dedicated to recognizing the research excellence and knowledge translation initiatives of the next generation of health services and policy researchers.
Various resources are provided on their wesite to encourage students and trainees in the health services and policy research field. These resources include links to student awards and prizes (check out the new IHSPR Rising Star Award!), funding opportunities, training programs, knowledge translation initiatives, and networking and capacity-building programs.
College of Graduate Studies
The College of Graduate Studies is responsible for merit-based graduate awards at the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia. The College manages a number of award competitions each year and administers payment of all internal awards and selected external awards.
