Biography

Lauren is a doctoral candidate under the supervision of Dr. Nelly Oelke; for Lauren’s dissertation, she is conducting an integrated knowledge translation, implementation science study on UBCO’s Harm Reduction Team (HaRT). Specifically, she is studying HaRT’s drug-checking program. Through drug-checking, clients can reduce their risks when using drugs by finding out the main ingredients in their drug. Lauren oversees HaRT in her role as a Wellbeing Strategist in UBCO’s Campus Wellness and Education unit; she partners with people with lived and living experience, local non-profit organizations, and the health authority, as well as the BC Centre on Substance Use. Previously, Lauren completed her Master of Science in Nursing in 2019. For her Master’s thesis, she conducted a photovoice study exploring the experiences of rural older adults with mental health concerns.
